Privacy Policy.
Short version: TaleBird does not collect personal information. No accounts, no email, no birthday, no real names. Stories you make stay on your device. The one time your child's photo leaves the device is for illustrated stories — and only with your explicit consent, only to create the pictures, and it is never kept afterward. We use anonymous usage analytics to learn which features matter — no identifier that ties back to you personally is ever sent.
What we do not collect
- No name, email, phone number, address, or date of birth.
- No account creation — you can use TaleBird straight from the App Store with nothing to fill in.
- No login, no password, no third-party social sign-in.
- No advertising identifier (IDFA). No cross-app tracking.
- No location data.
- No contacts, calendar, photos library, or microphone access unless you explicitly add a cast photo from your library.
What stays on your device
- Stories you generate, including title and full text.
- Photos you optionally pick for a cast member.
- Narration audio cached locally so playback works offline.
- Cover illustrations.
- Your settings and preferences.
None of this leaves the device through TaleBird. If you delete the app, all of it goes with it.
What we send to our servers
To generate a story you have not yet read, the app sends the story request — your child's name (a first name only, you typed it in), the chosen world, the chosen template, the mood, the length, the language — to TaleBird's servers. A third-party AI service then writes the story; the result is returned to your device. The story request itself is not retained after the response is delivered.
If you use the "From a drawing" feature, the photo of the drawing you pick is sent once to TaleBird's servers so the AI service can describe what is visible (color, subject, setting). The description is returned to your device and used as the seed for the story. The image is not kept after the response is returned.
If you turn on illustrated stories (the optional Studio feature), the cast member's photo you chose is sent — only after you give explicit consent in the app — to Google's Gemini AI image service, which uses it to draw your child as the illustrated hero of the story's scenes. The photo is used solely to create those illustrations; it is not retained by us afterward, and Google's commercial terms for this service prohibit using submitted images to train AI models. You are asked before a photo is ever shared, and you can withdraw consent at any time in Settings, which stops any further sharing. Occasionally the image service may decline to illustrate a particular photo or scene; nothing is stored when that happens.
The third-party AI service that processes these requests is configured under a commercial agreement that prohibits using submitted prompts to train models and that does not retain content beyond what is needed to return the response.
To prevent abuse and apply daily usage caps, each request carries an anonymous per-device identifier (Apple's identifierForVendor). This identifier is not linked to your Apple ID, email, or any personal information, and is not used for advertising, profiling, or analytics. It resets if you uninstall all of our apps from your device.
Anonymous analytics
TaleBird uses TelemetryDeck for anonymous usage analytics. TelemetryDeck identifies installations with a one-way hash of Apple's vendor identifier; no information that can be reversed to a specific user, device, or Apple ID ever reaches us or them. Events recorded include: app launch, a story being created, a cover image being generated, a theme being changed, a subscription being shown or purchased. No story title, body, child name, or other personal content is included in analytics events.
Payments
If you subscribe to TaleBird Plus, your payment is processed by Apple under the standard App Store rules. Payment information never reaches TaleBird's servers. We see only the anonymized fact that a subscription is active.
Children's privacy
TaleBird is designed to be used by a parent or guardian, who creates content for and shares it with their children. The app does not knowingly collect any personal information from a child. There are no child accounts. There is no in-app messaging, no public profiles, no third-party advertising, and no behavioral targeting of any kind. The app conforms to Apple's "Designed for Families" guidance and to the United States Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA"). The one feature that shares a child's image — illustrated stories — does so only with the parent's explicit, in-app consent, only to generate the pictures, and never retains the image afterward; consent can be withdrawn at any time in Settings.
Third parties
- Apple — App Store delivery, in-app purchases, push notifications, Live Activities. Governed by Apple's privacy policy.
- AI service providers — story text generation, narration, and cover/scene illustration. Illustrated stories use Google's Gemini image service to draw your child from the cast photo (only with your consent, as described above). We send the story request, and — with your consent — a cast photo for illustrated stories; the providers' policies apply on their side.
- TelemetryDeck — anonymous usage analytics. Their privacy policy is at telemetrydeck.com/privacy.
- Hosting provider — runs TaleBird's server infrastructure. Standard request logging applies; no user-identifiable content is logged by us.
Your rights
Because TaleBird does not hold any personal data linked to you, there is no account to delete, no profile to export, and no data to correct on our side. You can wipe your local data at any time by deleting the app.
If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have the standard rights under GDPR — access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, objection. To exercise any of them, please write to the contact address below. Note that for most of these rights there is in practice nothing to act on, because we do not hold the data; we mention them for completeness.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page whenever the practices it describes change in a meaningful way. The "Last updated" date at the top will move forward. Material changes that expand what we collect or who we share with will be announced in-app before they take effect.
